Our New Century
2022 to 2122
The Game
We believe everybody should realize the joy and benefit of playing sports, and there are so many reasons why bowls is ideally placed to unlock these fantastic advantages. Here are our top 5 reasons to give bowls a try.
1. Playing bowls is very doable. Whatever your physique, bowls is a sport for everybody and it will help improve your fitness levels and mental wellbeing.
2. Bowls is not expensive. To get going you don’t need lots of new kit. Even when you get the bug, a set of bowls and joining a club can cost as little as £100.
3. After football, bowls has the country’s second highest number of clubs. With so many places to play, it’ll take no time to get to a bowls club close to your home.
4. Compared to most sports, age and gender differences have less of an effect on a game of bowls, so it’s a perfect sport to spend time and enjoy a bit of friendly competition with your family.
5. Bowls clubs are sociable places full of people looking to have fun, so bowls is a great way to relax, make new friends and feel part of your local community.
The Club
We are situated in the heart of the picturesque village of Writtle, about 2 miles west of the county town of Chelmsford, our club is nestled behind a grade II listed high wall. Our “green” is in this sheltered, secluded location and is surrounded by pleasant gardens which are stocked with mature plants and shrubs.
We welcome both ladies and gentlemen from all walks of life and backgrounds and particularly encourage younger members of the community. Whether you are experienced, a complete beginner, serious bowler or just wish to partake in friendly roll ups in outstanding surroundings with good company, you are assured of a warm welcome.
The People
We are a thriving club that welcomes new members. To try out bowls with no obligation, come to the open days planned for the start of the season, details of which can be found on the News page or contact the Secretary.
We boast a good size clubhouse with bar and kitchen facilities which we make good use of both during and out of the bowling season.
During the closed season, we hold various social events for members, including a crib league, whist drives, quiz nights and other similar activities. In addition, our popular fortnightly coffee mornings are held throughout the year, where both members and non-members are welcome.
